AUGMENTED METANOIA

AR TAROT CARDS

Tarot cards may seem intimidating for beginners. Augmented Metanoia deck comes to save the day. There is no need for previous experience with tarot, and definitely no flipping through endless textbooks. The AR filter recognizes and tracks all the cards, giving you a simple reading in seconds. Anyone and anywhere can try it, learn or simply have fun with it.

This project was created for my BA degree as the final work. It merges the physicality of tarot cards with digital aspects. My goal for the project was making tarot cards more approachable and fun for anyone who wants to learn or just wants to try it.

Tarot is not only a fortune-telling silly activity. It is a kind of meditation It helps person dive into their deeper thoughts and reflect on their actions and plans.

neatly packaged

The box contains 78 illustrated tarot cards and a card with instructions on how to download the digital guide and access the AR filter for scanning cards.

illustrated cards

All of the cards were hand-illustrated, inked, digitalized, colorized and retouched. Cards come in 5 color variations, in hues or red, violet and blue. These colors help create a distinction between the 5 suits of cards. All cards hide a fox figure in them. Foxes are guides with a great wisdom and are seen as companion to magical creatures.

step by step guide

The digital guide app includes a step by step instructions that even person who has no experience with tarot reading can follow to do a simple reading. The app is much simpler in style to contrast the complex illustrations on cards.

line art exploration and character highlight

I chose to create an anonymous character that would live in the middle of concrete jungle where everyone has forgotten what it used to look like before. And you go along with this character and try to figure out where is nature hiding.
